Pınar Balat, born in Ankara in 1986, is an Amsterdam based architect and urbanist. She completed her bachelor studies in Middle East Technical University in Ankara and her first master’s degree on collective housing in Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. Afterwards she acquired her Master of Science diploma from Technische Universiteit Delft. In 2015, she founded her own office- Studio Pınar Balat. In the past decade she worked for various architecture and urban design offices in the Netherlands on projects of housing, neighbourhood scale urban planning and inner-city transformations. Parallelly, she has conducted design-based research on various contemporary urban questions such as feeling at home in the city, ecologically and socially just city neighbourhoods, healthy city and citizens and the just transformation of post-war neighbourhoods. At present, Pınar continues to work as an independent urban researcher. She offers expertise on spatial justice to various organisations and offices for projects of housing, neighbourhood planning and public space. She regularly takes part in debates concerning the future of urban areas in the Netherlands, and she is in the Advisory Committee of Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam. Through her work and professional relations she aspires to contribute to more just and sustainable urban environments. Studio Pınar Balat is a multilingual practice. Pınar carries out her projects in Dutch, English, Spanish and Turkish.
Pınar Balat, geboren in Ankara in 1986, is een architect en stedenbouwkundige gebaseerd in Amsterdam. Ze haalde haar Bachelorsdiploma in Middle East Technical University in Ankara en haar eerste Masterdiploma in woningbouw van Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. Daarna studeerde ze af als architect met Master of Science diploma aan de Technische Universiteit Delft. In 2015 richtte ze haar eigen bureau, Studio Pınar Balat op. In de afgelopen jaren heeft zij bij verschillende architectuur- en stedenbouwbureaus in Nederland gewerkt aan woningbouwprojecten, stedenbouwkundige plannen op wijkschaal en binnenstedelijke transformaties. Parallel hieraan heeft zij ontwerpend onderzoek projecten gedaan naar actuele stedenbouwkundige vraagstukken zoals thuis voelen in de stad, ecologisch en sociaal rechtvaardige stadswijken, gezonde stad en stedeling, en transformatie van naoorlogse wijken. Op dit moment werkt Pınar als zelfstandig stedenbouwkundige onderzoeker. Zij biedt haar expertise aan op het gebied van ruimtelijke rechtvaardigheid voor projecten van wonen, stadsontwikkeling en openbare ruimte. Ze neemt regelmatig deel aan de debatten over de toekomst van de stedelijke gebieden in Nederland, en ze zit in de Programmaraad van Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam. Door haar werk en professionele relaties, streeft ze ernaar bij te dragen aan rechtvaardige en duurzame stedelijke omgevingen. Studio Pınar Balat is een meertalige praktijk. Pınar voert haar projecten uit in het Nederlands, Engels, Spaans en Turks.
